Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
In Galatians 5, Paul gives us a contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. It starts in verse 16 where we are told to walk in the Spirit so we will not fulfill the works of the flesh. We then are taught that there is a battle going on between the flesh and the Spirit. The results of walking in the flesh are listed for us in verses 19-21. In verses 22-23 we see what can be our personality if we will walk in the Spirit. Also, I find it interesting that the flesh produces multiple (17) works, but the Spirit produces fruit in our lives. The fruit of the Spirit is…
- Emotional – Reminds us that we belong to God
A. Love – shown to us by God
B. Joy – sourced to us from God
C. Peace – secured for us with God
- Physical – Reveals to others that we belong to God
A. Longsuffering – patient
B. Gentleness – pleasant
C. Goodness – peaceful
- Spiritual – Releases us to live like we belong to God
A. Faith – that which makes us conquerors
B. Meekness – that which makes us calm
C. Temperance – that which makes us (self) controlled
