Isaiah 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the LORD, saying, Whom shall I send,
and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Isaiah’s words at the end of this verse are very familiar. Many missionaries, pastors, and other preachers have referenced this verse when announcing their calling. Sometimes we think that this verse only applies to “full-time” ministers. In fact, it applies to all of us because God has called each one of us to do something specific for Him. By taking a look at the first eight verses of this chapter, we can see the foundation and motivation for each of us to say to the Lord, “Here am I, send me.”
- The holiness and majesty of our God should cause us to say, “Here am I, send me.”
A. His position – vs.1
B. His praise – vs.2-3
C. His power – vs.4
- Our sinful condition and the condition of others should cause us to say, “Here am I, send me.” – vs.5
A. Seeing the Lord showed him his inadequacies
B. Seeing the Lord showed him his inabilities
C. Seeing the Lord showed him the insufficiencies of others in need
- Being purged from our sins and having our iniquity taken away should cause us to say, “Here am I, send me.” – vs.7
- Hearing the voice of the Lord should cause us to say,
“Here am I, send me.” – vs.8
