John 10:11
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
One of the exciting things about reading the Gospel of John is finding all the I Am’s. There are several here in chapter 10. I’ll let you find them for yourself, but there is a tremendous one here in verse 11. “I am the good shepherd.” In John 10:9-11, we can discover three wonderful things our Good Shepherd does for us.
- He Sacrifices – vs.11
As our Good Shepherd, Jesus willingly gave His life for the us. Through His sacrifice, we are saved. I know you know this, but meditate on this truth. We are the children of God because Jesus gave His life for us. - He Saves – vs.9
He is the Door. If we enter in through Him, we are saved. I am so glad I am saved. There is safety and security from all outside dangers in the salvation our Good Shepherd provides. - He Satisfies – vs.10
He gives us life. Not just life as an existence, but life “more abundantly”. Let this sink in. The definition of “abundantly” is “above the common”. What a life! Jesus wants you to live, and live above it all. He, our Good Shepherd, truly is all we need.
David writes these wonderful words in Psalm 100:3b. “We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” We are so blessed to have Jesus, our Good Shepherd.
