Ezekiel 36:26
One day while reading this chapter in Ezekiel, this verse grabbed my attention. After thinking and meditating on it for a few days, this story came to me and I wrote it in a song format. I feel it illustrates this verse and how God can take hard hearted sinners, melt their hearts, and save them. I must also confess, I was also listening to bluegrass gospel at the time. I hope it is a blessing to you.
Inside this frame of flesh and bone
There is a place where a heart belongs
But I must confess, I have something wrong
Inside of me, there’s a heart of stone
You can shed your tears but I don’t care
You can preach to me and say your prayers
I don’t want to hear your joyful songs
Cause inside of me, there’s a heart of stone
My mama lay on that bitter bed
She grabbed my hand and then she said,
“Boy, you must get right, so I can go home
Let Jesus save your heart of stone.”
I walked down the hall and then I cried
The angels came when my mama died
They carried her to that heavenly home
But I can’t go there with this heart of stone
The preacher preached on that mournful day
Of a mansion bright and a God Who saves
Oh, Lord, I have lived my life so wrong
Have mercy on this heart of stone
Inside this frame of flesh and bone
There is a place that God calls home
Now I’m His child to Him I belong
I’m so glad He saved this heart of stone
